Day 1: Seattle at Texas Rangers

Had to start with a haircut -- Supercuts by Rosalia . After all, I am going to see my mom in 17 days and the parental unease about hair length never seems to subside. Rosalia asked to see my papers. Fortunately, I had my birth certificate which unfortunately says Winnipeg, Canada. Citizenship can be complicated (ask our President), but my Texas driver's license worked.

We are getting ready for the Seattle-Texas game and a nice cool 100 degrees. Tomorrow night in Cincinnati, the high is supposed to be in the 60s.

We made it. Jeannie, Katie, Dave, Walter, and the star of the game -- Parker. Parker's mom, Katie, holds the Abilene Christian University women's softball team record for most home runs in a season (19). If you don't believe it, then as Casey Stengal used to say, "You can look it up." If you don't know who Casey Stengal is, then look him up.
Seattle dugout before the game.

Jeannie loves the mascots.

Star Spangled Banner
First pitch of the game and of the trip.

First hot dogs of the season.

We saw a home run, but it was by Seattle.
This is the great Seattle right fielder future first ballot hall of famer in two countries Ichiro--coming off the field He also stole second base during the game. Lucky he did not steal it in Arizona, he would have been asked for his papers :) -- okay, that will be the last Arizona crack for the trip.

Seattle's pitcher had a perfect game after three innings and a shutout into the ninth, but the mighty Rangers scored two in the bottom of the ninth and had the bases loaded, but alas, a popup ended the game, and the Rangers lost 4-2. Doh.
Day 1 is over and we fly to Cincinnati at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
