Day 11: Robbery in the Bronx -- Yanks beat Rangers 3-2

Day 11: Rangers vs. Yankees and Jersey Boys

Pleasant news this morning when Lars' (a young man from Plano whom I tutor who is on Long Island for the summer) mom, Peggy, texted me and said that we had tickets for the Rangers-Yankees game today.

Lars cousin, the talented Whitney drove Lars to Yankee Stadium for the 1:05 p.m. game, and Jeannie and I met them at Gate 6.  Here we are in our fantastic seats:

To get to the game, Jeannie and I took the #4 Train from Grand Central Station to Yankee Stadium.
When we got to Yankee Stadium, Jeannie made a friend.
Outside Yankee Stadium before the game.

View from out seat.
The winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning.  Yankees 3, Rangers 2
Yankees celebrating the win.  A questionable call by the umpire helped this to happen.

But thoughts of the Mavericks cheered us up.
What is amazing is that the driver of Mark Cuban's car in the parade is Jeannie's and my friend Bob Utter, who owns Bob Utter Ford in Denton, who was a groomsman in our wedding, and who is Bill Utter's brother (See blog Day 1, Day 9, and Day 10).  Also, when my oldest son Stewart was born 25 years ago, I was in a different hospital with pneumonia, and Bob filled in for me in the delivery room to help Jeannie.

We had a great time with Lars and Whitney.

Yankee Stadium was fun, except for the Rangers losing.

After the game we took the #4 Train back to Grand Central Station and got ready to go to what turned out to be a great show.
On the way to the hotel we stopped for a little pizza and ice cream.
On Friday we will tour New York a little and go to see the LA Angels play the NY Mets at Citi Field in Queens.

  1. Wow what day ya'll had! Can't wait to hear about the show.

You missed the most unbelievable day here yesterday with the parade. The city was on fire, fire, fire! In 29 years, I've never seen Dallas like this.

    Miss y'all.
