Day 26: The Drive, 701 miles from Manhattan to South Bend, Indiana (Home of Notre Dame)

Jeannie drove 701 miles from Manhattan to South Bend, Indiana.

After researching online we found and ate at a wonderful little Chinese restaurant in South Bend.

This is Jean Chen, the owner. After we were seated, she pulled up a chair, asked where we were from, what kind of food we liked, and told us what she had to offer at her 5-year old restaurant. She even said she could surprise us with a meal of her selection.

Jean's daughter graduated from Notre Dame. She now works for Deutsche Bank in London.

The meal was terrific. If you ever visit close to South Bend, make it a point to have a meal at JW Chen's and meet Jean.

Day 24: Another Day in New York City

Jeannie headed out early and found some unbelievable bargains at a sample sale in the Garment District.

First meal of the day

We just reserved our hotel room for another night -- now leaving Manhattan on Saturday. However, we will be driving 13 hours west on Saturday.

Game at Wrigley Field on Sunday at 1:20 p.m. Can we make it?

The four of us below are having dinner tonight at a restaurant in Tribeca called Tamarind.

On the way to the restaurant.

A wonderful dinner at Tamarind

And, at a table close to us was a celebrity, Nathan Lane.

Day 23: Manhattan and David Letterman

After spending the night on the West Side of the Hudson (Sully Sullenberg's River), we are driving over the George Washington Bridge again to the East side of the Hudson, the Bronx and Manhattan, New York City.

The talented ten year old Tavis sent us a Bugatti Veyron he drew on his IPAD. We love it, and it motivates us for this morning's drive.

And, later today, David Letterman.

Trouble on the drive.

Jeannie on Broadway

Checking in for Letterman

After checking in, you wait an hour to get in line, so we went right next door to Angelo's Pizza.

Madonna and Letterman ate here on the show

The Letterman show was good. Then we went to Eataly. Google "Eataly," you will want to go.
On the way to a Broadway show, "End of the Rainbow."

Amazing performance by Tracie Bennett

Tomorrow -- more adventure in NY.

Day 22: Cleveland Indians at New York Yankees

A Very Special Day

Jeannie and Debi both have their birthday today, June 26.
My former student, Elizabeth Kim makes it a special day.

Pre-game meal with Elizabeth and her son Tavis at Grisinni restaurant near her home in Englewood Hills, NJ, just across the Hudson River from the Bronx.

Then Elizabeth treated us to a game at Yankee Stadium, and she drove us to the stadium and back.

Monument Park behind center field fence. I have been waiting to see this monument of Mickey Mantle since before there was a monument.

Tavis, me, and Babe Ruth.

View from our seats of the Yankees taking batting practice before the game.

Jeannie trying to shag a ball during batting practice.

Derek Jeter hit a single on this pitch. Fans sang Happy Birthday to him. Jeannie thought it was for her. I told her June 26 was Jeter's birthday too.
